• 9th June 1956 - Joaquín Alonso - Sporting Gijon legend who played more than 500 times in 16 years at Estadio El Molinón. When he retired in 1992 he held the record for the most La Liga appearances.

• 9th June 1969 - Eric Wynalda - One of the first Americans to play professionally in Europe with 1. FC Saarbrücken, he returned to the US in 1996 to join the MLS and scored the 1st goal in the league's history.

• 9th June 1984 - Wesley Sneijder - For a number of years in the 2000s and 2010s, when the Dutchman was in his pomp, he was a proper classic playmaker, an absolute joy to watch.
