- 6th September 1913 - Leônidas. The Brazilian forward had great scoring stats at all of his clubs, especially Flamengo & São Paulo, but his main claim to fame is being top scorer at WC38 with 7 goals. He's also amongst the list of players credited for inventing the bicycle kick.
- 6th September 1947 - Bruce Rioch. Midfielder who became the first player born in England to captain Scotland. After a 20 year playing career he went on to have an even longer career in management.
- 6th September 1960 - Stephan Engels. German midfielder who had a long career with 1. FC Köln from 1978-88 before finishing his career with city rivals Fortuna Köln.
- 6th September 1963 - József Kiprich. Hungarian striker a genuine cult hero at Feyenoord in the 1990s.
- 6th September 1963 - Pat Nevin. Classic tricky little winger who had great spells with Chelsea and Everton in the 1980s and early 1990s.
- 6th September 1967 - Igor Stimac. Fantastic Croatian centre-back who was one of the most under-rated defenders of the 1990s.
- 6th September 1970 - Stéphane Guivarc'h. A World Cup winner with France in 1998. Newcastle Utd fans are still trying to work that one out...
- 6th September 1979 - Massimo Maccarone. Italian striker with a whole host of clubs on his CV, including a five year stint with Middlesbrough from 2002-07.
- 6th September 1980 - Joseph Yobo. Nigerian centre-back who was the Super Eagles record appearance holder when he retired from international football in 2014.
Football Events - 6th September
- 6th September 1995 - England drew 0:0 against Colombia at Wembley. Not a great game, but at least René Higuita introduced us to the Scorpion Kick.
- 6th September 1989 - England played group rivals Sweden in a World Cup qualifier in Stockholm. Terry Butcher helped them to a 0:0 draw and ended the game covered in blood.
- 6th September 1992 - Football Italia first aired on Channel 4. The 1st live match shown was a cracker - a 3-3 draw between Sampdoria and Lazio.
