Recent Winners of the Main European Football Leagues
Some leagues have always had dominant teams who've monopolised the winning of titles in their country. For some, such as Scotland, it's mainly been a two-horse race between the Glasgow giants, Celtic and Rangers, whilst for other countries such as the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal, there are three huge clubs in their leagues that have traditionally tended to win everything going. However, for many of the other big European leagues, England, Italy, Germany and France, there was, historically, a good mix of teams who could win the title. We say historically, because things have now changed, and not for the better.
The advent of super-wealthy clubs in recent years, and FFP rules that have prevented other clubs getting their place at the top of the table, has meant that these leagues have also started to become completely dominated by a few select teams, and in some cases, just a single team. In Germany, the Bundesliga has become so completely wrapped up by Bayern Munich that the interest now lies in who can finish second, or who will be relegated. The same in France with PSG, and it's now going the same way in England as Manchester City start to completely dominate the Premier League.
Italy had the same dominance from Juventis for a number of years, but has suddenly become the most interesting major football league in Europe, as a number of different clubs have won Serie A in recent years and a numbers of others look like they can challenge.
