Trevor Francis Profile


Born on April 19, 1954, in Plymouth, England, Trevor Francis began his footballing career with Birmingham City in 1970, at the age of just 16. He quickly established himself as a prodigious talent and became the youngest player to score in a first division match.

Francis continued to excel at Birmingham City and helped the club win the League Cup in 1972. His performances did not go unnoticed, and in 1979, he became the first player in British football history to be transferred for a fee of over £1 million when he moved to Nottingham Forest.

At Nottingham Forest, Francis formed a lethal partnership with the legendary Brian Clough and helped the club win the European Cup in 1979 and 1980. He scored in the final of the 1979 competition and became the first Englishman to score in a European Cup final.

Francis also had spells with Manchester City, Sampdoria, Atalanta, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday, and was a regular member of the England national team during his playing career. He retired from professional football in 1994 after a successful career that spanned over 20 years.

In addition to his success at the club level, Francis was also a key player for the England national team. He made his debut for the Three Lions in 1977 and went on to score 12 goals in 52 appearances for his country. He played in two World Cups for England and was a member of the squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 1986 tournament in Mexico.

Francis was known for his pace, skill, and finishing ability on the field. He was a versatile player who could play as a striker or a winger and had a knack for scoring important goals. He was also a pioneer in terms of transfer fees, becoming the first player to command a fee of over £1 million.
