Ünsal began his professional career at the age of 18 when he joined Bursaspor, a Turkish club based in Bursa. Following his stint in Italy, Ünsal returned to Turkey and joined Galatasaray, one of the country's most successful and popular clubs. It was at Galatasaray where he truly made his mark and became a household name among football fans. He played a crucial role in the team's triumph in the UEFA Cup in 2000, where they defeated Arsenal in the final. In addition to his club success, Ünsal also represented Turkey on the international stage. He made his debut for the national team in 1995 and went on to earn 44 caps, representing Turkey in major tournaments such as the UEFA European Championship and the FIFA World Cup.
