Sócrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Souza Vieira de Oliveira, commonly known as Sócrates, was a Brazilian footballer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of Brazilian football.

Sócrates was born on February 19, 1954, in Belém, Brazil. He began his football career with the youth team of Botafogo-SP before moving to Corinthians in 1978. At Corinthians, Sócrates quickly established himself as one of the best players in Brazil, helping the team win the São Paulo state championship in 1979.

In the early 1980s, Sócrates helped Corinthians win the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A twice, in 1982 and 1983. He was the team's captain and played a key role in their success.
