Marco Simone Profile
Talented little Italian forward who made a name for himself in the 1990s with Milan before moving to France with a big money transfer to PSG. Nicknamed Batman, Simone had a fine eight years with Milan despite being in competition for attacking places with a series of Ballon d’Or winners - Marco van Basten, George Weah and Roberto Baggio. Simone was best deployed as a second striker, his technical ability and movement made him ideally suited for the role and given some of his his performances in the rossoneri shirt it’s something of a surprise that he didn’t earn more than the four caps that he did for the national team. Simone could also do a job as a main striker too, in 1994-95 he had his best goalscoring year for Milan when he had to step up to the role because Marco van Basten was unable to play because of his injury. Simone left for Ligue 1 in 1997 and spent four years there split between PSG and Monaco, before returning to Milan for a short spell at the San Siri in 2001.
