  • 12th October 1966 - Roberto Néstor Sensini. The Argentinian defender is best known for his time with Parma and Udinese in the 1990s.
  • 12th October 1961 - Miguel Porlán Noguera. Better known as Chendo. The right-back was a one-club man with Real Madrid from 1977 to 1998.
  • 12th October 1966 - Wim Jonk. Contrary to the belief of Sheffield Wednesday fans, the Dutch midfielder was actually pretty decent in the 1990s, especially at Ajax, Inter, PSV Eindhoven and the Netherlands.
  • 12th October 1935 - Don Howe.
  • 12th October 1963 - Raimond Aumann.
  • 12th October 1917 - Roque Maspoli. Legendary goalkeeper of both Peñarol and the Uruguayan national team. Maspoli was one of the hero's of the Maracanazo, the name given to the final of 1950 World Cup when, against all the odds, Uruguay managed to defeat host-nation Brazil at the Maracanã Stadium.

  • 12th October 1916 Mexican side Club América were formed on this day in 1916 when two college teams in Mexico City merged to create a more competitive team. "Las Águilas" (the Eagles) remain one of only two clubs never to have been relegated from Mexico's top tier (the other being C.D. Guadalajara).
  • 12th October 1977 Wales switched their crucial World Cup qualifier against Scotland to Anfield. It backfired. The Tartan Army took over and the Welsh lost 2:0.
